Pursuant to PQR’s reissue of San Michael’s and Gandalf’s albums (both sold out in a flash), and more recently of Midsommar’s debut, we continue digging into the gold reserves of the Swedish 70s underground to unearth the highly collectable album by KONTINUERLIG DRIFT (meaning ‘continuous operation’ in Swedish). Just like GANDALF, this is a versatile album, equally split into ethnoprog, psychedelic and bluesy moments, all of which were indispensable facets of the band’s prolonged live appearances ever since the early 70s.  This is an indispensable album for Scandinavian psych/prog collectors, showcasing a unique blend between Flasket Brinner’s ethnoprog orientation and Mecki Mark Men’s drifting psychedelia. Liksom En Herdinna and Gånglåt Från Vettet, 7 and 10-minutes long respectively, are the ethnoprog-cum-hippiefolk highlights, both constituting exercises in outlandishly quasi-freakout dialogues between sax, violin, piano, bass, and electric guitar. The latter begins with a more conservatively attuned progression, prior to wavering into a psychedelic guitar solo that is followed by the rest instruments’ solo exhibitions, whereas the former features an intentionally drifting accompanying piano in semi-drunken soloing mode, as deconstructive variations deploy of the permeating folk theme that sets the tone, but not the trajectory of bifurcations that multiply in line with the constantly augmented multi-instrumentalist armory, culminating in a serene lullaby spearheaded by cowbells’ interpretation. Indianens Blod and Se Men Inte Röra make up the psychedelic side of the album, marked by alternatingly mesmerizing and aggressive solos, with the latter’s thematic pattern bearing a striking resemblance to Iggy Pop’s The Passenger. This is the first, collectable reissue of the album in 400 numbered copies and 4 colors (of 100x copies each), remastered by the band, and including a bonus CD with ultra-rare and previously unreleased tracks and a 2-page insert with the band’s official bio.

RIALZU biography

RIALZU biography by Gilles Renne (Rialzu) and Alain Lebon (Soleil Zeuhl)   It was during the rebirth of the Corsican Independence movement that the only record of RIALZU appeared. RIALZU, a band whose musical adventure plunges me back into the far-away and almost ghostly universe of my youth.   RIALZU was created in the early 1970’s at the peak of an incredible musical effervescence : many bands, soon to become legends, were breaking musical taboos and adventuring onto virgin territories by mixing musical styles with incredible creativity and thus laying the new foundations of music yet to be. It was in this atmosphere that, as a teenager, I began teaching myself to play the guitar by trying to decipher the magical notes of my ‘guitar heroes’ from their albums. I met Christophe Mac Daniel, a young organist from Corsica, at a Jesuit boarding school in Avignon. Together we took our first musical steps by starting up a band (of ever-changing names) with two other...

In this case, you can guess the music from the band’s name, a regression into the depths of the unconscious (Freud’s antecedent term for ID in the structure of the cunning invention called ‘psyche’) via an interminable sonic evocation. The highlights of the album are the 2 long parts of the homonymous track covering most of the 2 sides. Although the prog progression at the beginning of Where Are We G...

Although they performed regularly in staple venues and events such Ashton Court Festival (1978), the Rock Garden, the ICA in London, Glastonbury and Stonehenge between 1974-1979, they only recorded a one-off gem in 1977, The World At Mind’s End. A testament to its members’ musical virtuosity, including Steve Robshaw’s outstanding guitar-playing skills, flutework and violin, Paul Todd on soprano saxophone and Howard Scarr’s expertise wit...
