Unless we all live in an infinitely looping time bubble, it is quite cumbersome to explain how Mirthrandir’ s album For You The Old Women was originally released in 1976, rather than appearing for the first time in the ‘happening’ of the ‘now-sounds’. A much sought after artefact among savvy prog collectors, and not at all coincidentally, For You The Old Women sits comfortably among the top 10 most inventive and omni-dexterous US prog bands, alongside Cathedral, Yezda Urfa, Happy the Man, Lift, to name a few. Moreover, their album sounds as fresh and captivating today, not only to generations of prog ears, but also to prog and symphonic metal aficionados, as it blends complex symphonic arrangements, in all their interminable and idiosyncratically unexpected twists and turns, with heavy bass-driven passages and high-pitched vocals that will send any Dream Theater fan straight to headbanging heaven. Any background reference is highly unlikely to do justice to the prowess, virtuosity and precision of the compositions that are engraved in this album, as to render any attempt at matching its quality with a comparable sequel a heroic feat of self-overcoming, if not a futile enterprise. This first ever vinyl reissue is a testament to Mirthrandir’s music genius, packed with a bonus CD featuring a very rare and highly energetic live show performed by the band in New Jersey in 1975, as well as previously unreleased tracks from the same period as the album, a 12-page booklet with extensive band and individual members’ bios and rare photo material. This edition is available in 3 ultra-limited and numbered colors, black (100 copies), splatter (200 copies) and clear vinyl (200 copies).

File nearby : Mirthrandir, Cathedral, Lift, Genesis, ELP Easter Island's self-titled 1979 masterpiece rightfully stands in the midst of the top 10 US Prog Classics. It offers an emotionally captivating experience, marked by the melodic ebb and flow that is definitive of dexterously multilayered symphonic prog, interwoven with outbursts of heavy riffs. From the lush Mellotron textures and melodic bass lines of Genius of the Dance to the heavy progression of Face-to-Face, this is an album that grows within its listeners like a benevolent virus. The highlight of the album is the 17-minutes long Alchemist’s Suite, including the oneiric sequence of Telesterion, an evocative tribal piece of percussion and electronics that radiates with s...

Picture Rennaissance in an interminable jam with MIA and Catharsis with Bacamarte and you might start to get a feel for this one-of-a-kind artefact. This is the fir...

Quintet, Kimio Mizutani, Terry Brooks & Strange, Necronomicon, The Spoils of War, Electric Orange After Mirthrandir, Lift and Easter Island, we continue bringing you the cream of the crop from U.S. Prog Classics, with the reissue of ID’s 1977 album Where Are We Going. In this case, you can guess the music from the band’s name, a regression into the depths of the unconscious (Freud’s antecedent term for ID in the structure of the cunning invention called ‘psyche’) via an interminable sonic evocation. The highlights of the album are the 2 long parts of the homonymous track covering most of the 2 sides. Although the prog progression at the beginning of Where Are We G...
