Back by popular demand, Roy Rutanen’s self-titled album in a strictly limited 2nd pressing of 200 copies, with extra goodies: marble vinyl, Bonus CD single ‘Hey You’ (with download card), printed signed card, and the 2-page color insert that was included in the 1st pressing.  Rutanen’s album has been a best-kept secret among psychedelia and acid-folk collectors ever since its original release in 1971. What could have been the solid foundation for a promising career in the music industry was abandoned due to the lack of label support, subsequently surviving as a one-off museum piece, accessible to a select few who can afford the price commanded for original copies.  Roy’s music continues to shine through with his unique combination of moody acoustic bliss and acid-drenched solos, all of which are epitomized in the Trip Song, the 10-minutes long magnum opus of the album that might as well be listed in the Top 10 psychedelic tunes of all times.

In this case, you can guess the music from the band’s name, a regression into the depths of the unconscious (Freud’s antecedent term for ID in the structure of the cunning invention called ‘psyche’) via an interminable sonic evocation. The highlights of the album are the 2 long parts of the homonymous track covering most of the 2 sides. Although the prog progression at the beginning of Where Are We G...

RIALZU biography

RIALZU biography by Gilles Renne (Rialzu) and Alain Lebon (Soleil Zeuhl)   It was during the rebirth of the Corsican Independence movement that the only record of RIALZU appeared. RIALZU, a band whose musical adventure plunges me back into the far-away and almost ghostly universe of my youth.   RIALZU was created in the early 1970’s at the peak of an incredible musical effervescence : many bands, soon to become legends, were breaking musical taboos and adventuring onto virgin territories by mixing musical styles with incredible creativity and thus laying the new foundations of music yet to be. It was in this atmosphere that, as a teenager, I began teaching myself to play the guitar by trying to decipher the magical notes of my ‘guitar heroes’ from their albums. I met Christophe Mac Daniel, a young organist from Corsica, at a Jesuit boarding school in Avignon. Together we took our first musical steps by starting up a band (of ever-changing names) with two other...
